Mr. P.K. Ashok Babu

Mr. Ashok Babu assumed charge as Consul General of India, Capetown, with jurisdiction over Western Cape and Northern Cape provinces.

He is a member of the Indian Foreign Service, having joined in 2007. His overseas assignments include serving as the Deputy Consul General of India, Dubai (UAE) from 2011-14, and at Indian Embassy at Cairo (Egypt), from 2009-11.

At the headquarters, he has held the office of Under Secretary (United Nations – Political) Division from 2014-16, where he handled matters related to United Nations, Commonwealth and Contact Group on Piracy off the Coast of Somalia (CGPCS).

He was the Regional Passport Officer and Head of Branch Secretariat at Chennai from April 2016-August 2020, during which period many citizen centric measures were implemented by the Ministry of External Affairs.

Mr. Ashok hails from Madurai in the southern state of Tamil Nadu and is a qualified Engineer from Central Electrochemical Research Institute at Karaikudi. He is married and has a son.

He speaks Sourashtra, Tamil, Hindi, English and Arabic. He loves endurance running, hiking, cricket and reading.
